Achieve the Modern Farmhouse look with White Board and Batten
The appeal of the modern “farmhouse” style is definitely at the top of the 2021 trends. This long traditional architectural style has recently seen exponential growth in the suburbs with designers selecting white board and batten as the cladding to achieve the look. Ironwood Estates
Recently, Kaycan’s white B&B was selected in a large multi-family project in Prince Edward Island. Sara Dykerman, designer with Plank & Pine Interior design, worked on the project with the Sperra Construction Group and JCJ Associates. She had this to share about why she selected the color and profile:
“When I was brought in to work on this project, apartment building design was a new domain to me. After doing some research into apartment building design and really looking at the buildings up or going up at the time on PEI, I noticed many of them were using a similar combination of materials and colors. I was really inspired by the Scandinavian design aesthetic which focuses on creating minimal, clean, bright spaces and I wanted to carry these elements into the exterior design for Ironwood.
I really wanted to do something different while understanding that I was working within a strict budget and using higher end materials was not an option. Board & Batten has such a timeless look and with it being relatively affordable and easy to install, I knew this was going to be the main material I used for the exterior design (most buildings use it only on small areas or sections). I also knew B &B would work beautifully with the corrugated steel that we were using for this project and while this created a lot of vertical lines, I loved how they married together for one cohesive, clean look (most buildings use a combination of horizontal and vertical components)! I chose white for the primary color because most buildings I had seen were composed of a darker combination of colors that I personally didn’t think would age well, white is such a classic timeless color and always will be!
Finally, adding the wood-like vinyl as an accent really brought this design to life by adding a textural component!”
The Downtown Dream Home
Located in downtown Fredericton, Holland Homes designed and built this stunning home using DaVinci Board & Batten in Manor.
Their clients wanted a “contemporary style and color to juxtapose the traditional lines”. Creative Director for “At Home with the Hollands”, Jenna Holland gave us some insight:
“White board and batten siding is the perfect choice if you’re looking to achieve the popular Modern Farmhouse style. If you’re looking to keep things a little more traditional, choosing another color in the board and batten will keep the house feeling current, but the farmhouse style will be more subtle.”
